 | On 1. December 1941, the Airbase Meiringen was officially taken in use. The airbase was a part of the "Reduit" due to the World War II. Today, over 60 years later, the airbase is used by the Fliegerstaffel 11 with their F/A-18 Hornets and the Fliegerstaffel 8 with their F-5 Tiger II. This two squadron are a part of the Flugplatzkommando Meiringen. The airfield lies in the Haslital, in the beautifull Berner Oberland between Brienz and Meiringen. It's perhaps the most |
| beautifull airbase in Europe! On March 2007, the Flugplatzkommando Meiringen and the Fl Geschw 13 organised an openday at Meiringen. The only two "airshow-parts" were the AS-532 Cougar and the Pilatus PC-9. It wasn't a day with a big airshow. This day should show the work and the people behind an airbase. Neverthless we could see some planes in the air. In the morning and in the afternoon, two Hornets and two Tigers started for a normal training-flight over the Alps. | | | On ground was presented for the first time the new painted F-18 C Hornet J-5011 with a new tiger tail. It's a nice work and is well done! You could also see the new Pilatus PC-7 in the new painting, AS-532 Cougar or an F-5 E Tiger II. Special guests of this day were a delegation of the Belgian Airforce. The Belgian pilots presented an F-16 also painted with a tiger tail. |
